Week 13

This week for FFF, we read Turkcy Trouble.  In the story, the Turkey tries his very best to disguise himself as anything BUT a turkey, because Thanksgiving Day was coming!  He disguised himself as a pig, a horse, and a cow.  Finally, he disguised himself as a pizza delivery man that enjoyed a big pizza on Thanksgiving instead. :)
The kids did a great job of brainstorming different disguises they could make their own turkey.  Some kids did policemen, teachers, friends or food!

We got to end our day eating bagel bite pizza to celebrate the Turkey from our story!  :)

Fun Fantastic Friday Fall Festival

Thank you to all our helpers for our Fall Festival!  The kids got to do 4 different centers:  Scarecrow Craft, Fall Necklace with beads and leave,  Fall Bingo, and Cupcake Decorating. Although all of our centers were fun, the favorite was definitely cupcakes!  Enjoy the pictures of our Fall Fun. :)

Week 10 & 11

We have had a busy couple of weeks in Kindergarten!  In October we have learned all about the inside and outside of a pumpkin!  We also sang songs about pumpkins and continued talking about the pumpkin life cycle.  Our favorite was the poem "Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate!"

We also loved touching the ooey and gooey inside of our classroom pumpkin!  We thought of words to describe it, and then got to explore.

After we touched the inside, we carved our pumpkin into a friendly jack-o-lantern.  The kids named her "Jackie!"
Last but not least, we cleaned off the gooey pumpkin seeds from inside our pumpkin, baked them, salted them, and taste tested them!  Most of liked the way they tasted. :)
This week we also learned about the letter Dd.  Our friend Doc helped us blend /d/ words and name words that both begin and end with /d/!  As always, we love seeing our song of the week. :)

Week 9

This week we had a great time at Ard's Pumpkin Patch!  We loved the slide and fun barn, and even had time for some donuts and apple cider. :)

This FFF, we read the book Pumpkin Pumpkin by Jeanne Tetherington.  We read a book about the lifecycle of a pumpkin and sang a song to help us remember how a pumpkin grows.
Then we finished our day by making our own Jack-O-Lantern pumpkins to help us remember the pumpkin lifecycle.  We got to teach eachother all about the pumpkin by using our own craft!

Week 8

This week we met a new superkid named Alf.  Alf taught us about the letter Aa and the sound /a/. We loved learning about Alf's adventures with ants!

This week we also introduced kid writing.  We talked about how a letter begins with a capital letter and ends with a period.  We also met our "space man" and used him to make spaces between our words.  The kids did an awesome job sounding out words to make their very first story about the month of September!

All week long we have been learning about fire safety through our centers.  On Fun Fantastic Friday, we celebrated Fire Safety Week with our very own fire hats! We sang a fire safety song, read a fireman poem, and watched a fire safety video.

Week 7

Such a busy week in Kindergarten!  Because we had such a great time learning about letters with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, this week we started centers all about the book!
The kids have a center each day - either ABC, 123, Art or Listening.  This is independent work while Miss Ruba calls groups back to the reading table to dive into phonics and deeper reading skills!  They did so well doing their center "jobs" all by themselves. :)

This week we also met Golly, the superpet! Golly taught us all about the letter Gg and the sound /g/.  We practiced words that started with Gg and practiced our handwriting skills too!

We ended Golly's unit by reading the story Gregory's Green Goggles - but of course we had to make our own green goggles too! :)

To end our week, we celebrated the beginning of fall by having a fall festival full of fall centers! We got to decorate fall leaves, paint a fall tree, graph m&ms, and make vines and leaves for our fingerpaint pumpkins. A big thank you to our mom helpers!

We now have a beautiful (handmade) fall tree in our classroom!

Since Saturday was also Johnny Appleseed's birthday, we also got to sing a song about him!  We read a story about John Chapman, illustrated a poem about him, and of course read a few great books.

But we couldn't have celebrated Johnny Appleseed, without making our own homemade applesauce!  It was a yummy way to celebrate fall. :)
